This week Phil Goff made his third unfunded promise when he signed up to a new $1 billion stadium in Auckland. This follows his promises to roll-out light rail across central Auckland and to move the port.
NBR Radio interviewed me about the stadium issue this week. The issues are a bit more complex than Phil makes out. It’s a shame he didn’t make the idea of a new stadium happen when the Government he was part of suggested it in 2006.
I think a new stadium is behind some of our transport and housing/infrastructure priorities. I also want to have a much closer look at Eden Park, working with them and local residents and businesses, before we put a case to Government and the Auckland ratepayer on a brand new stadium.
Have a listen to my approach here.
