Mark is an entrepreneur and smart cities expert. He founded the Asia-Pacific based enterprise business Serviceworks Group and regularly speaks internationally and writes about solving city challenges.
He received the Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution towards building Smart Cities from the World Sustainability Congress, and was part of the Top 50 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders 2019.
Mark was an elected member of the Auckland Council from 2010-2016 as a Local Board Deputy Chair, and was re-elected in 2013 with one of the highest votes in Auckland. The NZ Herald called his local board one of the most effective in the region.
He has been actively involved in a wide-range of community and volunteer groups for more than twenty years including the Auckland City Mission, Lifewise and Youthline. Mark is an experienced director and has held governance roles across a range of private, public and not-for-profit organisations.
He is on the board of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) and the ASEAN New Zealand Business Council. He is a member of the Smart Cities Council, the Urban Mobility Taskforce and the ASEAN Business Alliance Working Group. He is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and the Sustainable Business Network.
Mark’s connection to the ward goes back 30 years. His very first flat was just off Dominion Road, in Balmoral, and he and Wendy bought their first house near Eden Terrace. They have two boys, 16 and 13, with the eldest at Auckland Grammar.
The family has been living in Singapore for the last two years and returned to Auckland early this year.
