I spoke to Fairfax’s Auckland-based reporter following the 6 hour shambolic council meeting I attended on Wednesday which saw the unsubstantiated, non-consulted zoning changes to 20,000+ houses withdrawn.
“Mayoral candidate Mark Thomas, who is also on the Orakei Local Board which organised a 700-strong public meeting over the zoning evidence, said Wednesday’s result was the right one.
“We really made a major mistake,” he said.
“I think what we saw is the cleanest decision possible… because I know the clock’s ticking.”
Greater, more affordable housing is essential. We can make good progress in other unitary plan areas. But we will probably need to redo how the residential rules apply.
